saaThe International Conference on AIDS and STI’s in Africa (ICASA) 2015 was scheduled to be hosted in Hammamet in Tunisia as determined after a successful bid process.  This was slated to be the largest bilingual gathering of AIDS and STI stakeholders in Africa. However the board of Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA) took a rather difficult decision due to security concerns and circumstances beyond our control to move the conference to an alternative venue. The recent trip of the SAA board in Zimbabwe has been successful and we are pleased to announce that Zimbabwe will welcome all delegates including key populations at ICASA 2015.

In view of this change, the Secretariat wished to inform all previously registered delegates, that new invitation letters will be issued, and those who secured visa for Tunisia, will receive visas for Zimbabwe at no additional cost. For delegate that will not be able to secure their Zimbabwe visa online, as long as they have their proof of registration, visa is possible on arrival upon presentation of relevant documents. The change of venue affected the whole organization including SAA, however safety and security of our delegates remain paramount and is non-negotiable.

One of the core aims of ICASA is to promote multidisciplinary dialogue and healthy debate on the AIDS response in Africa. The conference has been organized to embrace all disciplines and groups affected by HIV/AIDS.

It is our hope that the World AIDS Day which will fall during the period of the conference will be an opportunity to reflect on the progress made to eliminate HIV and the challenges that lie ahead towards making the goal of an HIV/AIDS free Africa a reality. To this end we look to announcing the ICASA 2015 declaration to be delivered to the Head of The African Union on 1st December 2015.

The conference organizing committee is confident of a successful ICASA 2015.  We believe in a strong partnership with all stakeholders is paramount to move the HIV/AIDS agenda forward in Africa and we count on your support and engagement.

With a united front we can accomplish the ambitious goal of an HIV/AIDS free Africa!

About The Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA)

The Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA), the custodian of ICASA was founded in 1989 at the fourth International Symposium on AIDS and Associated Cancers in Africa (call ICASA) held in Marseille, France by a group of African scientists, activists and advocates in response to this epidemic. SAA envisions an African continent free of HIV, TB and malaria and their debilitating effects on communal and societal structures, where communities are socially and economically empowered to live productive lives in dignity.
